Our Cashmere Yak Blends Introduction.....
Yak wool is warmer than merino, as soft as cashmere and as tough as
camel, and so has made a welcome addition to a marketplace in a means to
conserve cashmere fibers, animal overgrazing and environmental
challenges. We at Jonathan Kringle are keenly aware of the global
issues surrounding the cashmere and luxury products. Our
contribution to combat this is the introduction of yak fiber to the
collection, our yarn consists of a blend 70% Yak/30% Cashmere in a count
of 2/18's Nm.. With a diameter of 15-20 microns, it is comparable to
cashmere in softness while being 10-15% warmer than merino wool.
For
the Yak, their thick coats provide crucial defense against the harsh
climate. Descriptions of a yak's coat read like tags on technical
apparel, with multiple protective layers each playing a role. The
coarse, slick outer coat can stay on year-round, repelling moisture and
ultraviolet rays, while an exceptionally fine, crimped undercoat of down
provides insulation in winter. A midrange layer fills in the gaps
and—like the outer coat—includes some fibers with insulating hollow
cores. Natural breath-ability helps the body regulate its heat, keeping the wearer warm in the cold and cooler when temperatures rise.
